Why we’re proud to be a feminist branding agency

The word feminist can evoke a range of emotions. Like many, I used to be cautious about using it in professional settings, even though I've always considered myself a feminist. The term comes with its own baggage, often associated with a narrow definition of feminism that doesn’t always include diverse voices. But after a recent conversation with an industry colleague, I realised that feminism is at the core of what we do at Smart Beauty Creativeand it’s something we should proudly highlight.

The beauty industry has long been male-dominated, with outdated marketing practices that talk down to consumers, especially women. But today’s beauty consumers are more informed, more sceptical, and more demanding of brands.

Our mission is to help beauty brands navigate this new landscape by creating authentic, intelligent messaging that resonates with modern consumers. We focus on empowering female founders – especially women of colour – to connect not only with customers but also with investors, media, and other key stakeholders. We believe in talking to consumers in a way that respects their intelligence and avoids playing on insecurities just to sell products.

We’re proud to call ourselves a feminist branding agency because we believe that beauty and feminism are not mutually exclusive. The beauty industry, despite its flaws, offers incredible opportunities for female empowerment. We want to be at the forefront of this change, helping brands create marketing strategies that celebrate and empower women, rather than perpetuating outdated stereotypes.
